Valentines weekend at the FASTBREAK conference was life-changing for all of us, but especially for two young people who found eternal life . . .
Terrell was one of 9 students that came from LaGuardia. He is from a tough neighborhood in Harlem and once told me, “When I look at my friends, I wonder why I am the one that got out (and into LaGuardia High School)”. Although he came regularly to the Christian Club, he hid behind philosophy and a serious look. But on the second night of the conference, he came forward to ask Jesus into his life!
His countenance literally changed! I saw him smile for the first time and his guard went down. Even when I went to school yesterday, the students were all talking about how different Terrell was…and everyone at school was talking about it! This is something only God can do!
Altynai (also from LaGuardia) is from a totally different world . . . a wealthy family in a great neighborhood. When I asked her why she came to the Christian club, she said, “My parents have no religion and when I saw this club at the Club Fair, I wanted to see what is was about”. She knew little to nothing about God, but also asked Jesus into her life on the second night of FastBreak and totally changed!
In fact, the next day we did an outreach in the community and she shared her 1 day old testimony of knowing Jesus with a family :-). I can not wait to see what God does in and through this young lady! Definitely pray for her family!
Erisha is the only one that really struggled. In the prayer room, the students were able to meet with the Lord at different prayer stations. At one, they were challenged to think about their “idols” and to smash them. Erisha realized that there were things she would not/could not give up. She was so conflicted. You could really see God working in her….almost painful to watch (in a good way).
At the FASTBREAK outreach, students were able to:
Pray with 15 people
Share the Gospel with more than 40 people
Write 10 letters to friends sharing their faith
Write 26 Anonymous Letters sharing the Gospel to people in the community.
Pray that Christ will deepen his relationship with them quickly.
